The Last Favor to a Dying Friend

Hey there,

Sorry for the lack of updates. Let’s just say that August was kind of a rough month, for a variety of reasons. One of them being the loss of a friend I used to interact with frequently during my early years at The Daily Grail. As life usually goes, we lost touch, but this year we managed to reconnect; unfortunately, it was not to last because my friend was living his last days on this Earth, due to cancer.

As a last favor, he asked me to write a sort of eulogy for him at the Grail, which I was happy to do –even though it was probably THE most difficult literary assignment I’ve ever embarked on. Here’s the link, hoping you might get something out of it.

An Earthling Blasts Off into Space (Vale Bernd Stramm)

As for me, the brief reconnecting with my friend helped me to put a few things in perspective. It reminded me of how fleeting life is, and how it is so easy to obsess with the bad stuff, while overlooking all the good stuff that also comes your way.

So wherever you are, Bernd, I hope you’re still learning new things, the way you used to do over here. I also hope you get to enjoy something tantamount to the joy and freedom you used to experience while sailing, and that you’re okay.

Thank you, and I’ll see you around…
